A cashback casino bonus pays back a slice of what you lost over a set period. Lose C$200, get 10% back, collect C$20. It is one of the few promotions that only shows up after things have gone badly, so it feels like insurance. Sometimes it behaves like insurance. Quite often it is a smaller, stickier bonus wearing a nicer coat.
Three things decide which one you're looking at: how the casino counts your loss, how often it settles the account, and whether the refund arrives as cash you can withdraw or as bonus money with a playthrough attached. The coupons above are the cashback deals we track. Here is how to read them.
Net loss is a ledger, not a feeling
Most schemes start from the same sum over the period:
net loss = deposits − withdrawals − balance left at the end
Deposit C$300 on Tuesday, withdraw C$100 on Thursday, finish Sunday with C$40: 300 − 100 − 40 = C$160. The percentage applies to that, after some trimming:
- Bonus money is stripped out. Many casinos skip any period in which a bonus was active, so a week where you took a reload can pay nothing at all.
- A pending withdrawal usually counts as already withdrawn.
- Some games don't count. TrustDice's rakeback only runs on slots, dice, crash and Plinko; live and table bets earn nothing.
- Floors apply. 7Bit wants at least C$500 deposited and a C$500 net loss in the week before it pays a cent.
A second family ignores losses altogether. PlayOJO's OJOplus returns a slice of every real-money bet, win or lose, with no cap and an unpublished rate that varies by game. TrustDice's rakeback (up to 21%, paid as cash) also follows volume, usually measured against the house edge on your stakes, so its 21% can't be compared with a loss-based rate.
Daily resets versus a weekly tally
A daily scheme closes the books every night. Lose C$150 on Monday, win it back on Tuesday, and Monday still pays. A weekly scheme nets the two days to zero. On paper, daily is kinder to anyone whose results swing.
The catch is what daily schemes ask for in return. KatsuBet pays 5%, 7% or 10% on the previous day's losses, but only if you deposited €250–500, €500–1,000 or €1,000+ that day, in at least two deposits. The refund carries 15× wagering and can't win more than 15 times its own size. Mirax's daily cashback goes further up the ladder (10%, 15%, 20% on losses from €200, €1,000 and €2,000) and is reserved for high rollers who have made four deposits; it carries 45×.
Weekly schemes tend to be softer on entry. Boomerang pays 5%, 10% or 15% depending on VIP level, capped at C$1,000, C$2,000 and C$3,000, credited on Mondays with 1× wagering. 7Bit runs a VIP ladder from 5% at levels 1 to 5 (35× wagering) up to 20% at level 12 (1×). Alexander pays 2% every two weeks at its top loyalty level, though gambling.com quotes up to 5%.
Dip in most evenings with C$50 and daily wins in theory, then loses on the deposit thresholds.
Cash in hand, or a bonus with strings
Take a C$50 refund and clear it on a 96% slot. Every dollar wagered costs four cents on average, so:
- at 1×, you bet C$50 and expect to lose C$2 of it;
- at 15×, you bet C$750 and expect to lose C$30;
- at 35×, you bet C$1,750 and expect to lose C$70, which is more than the refund was worth.
A cashback at 35× has a negative expected value: on average you hand back more than you received. Cash with no playthrough (PlayOJO, TrustDice) or with 1× (Boomerang, 7Bit at level 12) is the version that behaves like a refund. Everything else should be judged like any other bonus, with the tools on our wagering requirements page.

| Casino Days | Not published | Weekly | Not stated | Invite-only VIP club |
| BitStarz | 10% (reported) | Weekly | Not stated | Invite-only VIPs, not in public promotions |
"Not stated" means we couldn't confirm it, not that it's zero. Boomerang's figures come from review sites that disagree with each other (one describes a one-off 5% offer rather than a weekly scheme), so treat its row as provisional. None of these offers is open to players in Ontario, which runs its own regulated market.
C$400 down in a week: three schemes, three answers
Here's a plain losing week. You deposit C$200 on Monday, C$150 on Wednesday and C$150 on Saturday, withdraw nothing, and log off on Sunday with C$100 left. Net loss: 500 − 0 − 100 = C$400. All play is on slots at 96%.
Boomerang, VIP level 1
5% of C$400 is C$20, credited Monday. You bet it once: C$20 of turnover, expected cost 80 cents. You walk away with roughly C$19.20 in withdrawable terms. Dull, and the best result here.
KatsuBet's daily cashback
Nothing. No single day cleared €250 in two or more deposits, so no day qualifies. Change the pattern and it pays: put the money in on one day, two deposits clearing €250, and lose the equivalent of C$400 before midnight. Now 5% gives about C$20, which must be wagered 15×. That's C$300 of bets and an expected cost of C$12, leaving around C$8 on average, with any win capped at 15× the refund.
7Bit's VIP ladder
Also nothing. You met the C$500 deposit floor, but the net loss of C$400 sits under the C$500 threshold. Suppose you'd lost C$500 instead. At VIP levels 1 to 5 you'd get 5%, so C$25, at 35×: C$875 of turnover, C$35 expected cost. You'd expect to give back more than you got. The scheme only pays properly near the top of the ladder, where 20% comes with 1×. The data we have doesn't list the levels in between.
Same bad week: about C$19, C$0 (C$8 if crammed into one day) and C$0. The smallest headline percentage wins, because it's the only scheme paying a normal player in cash.
Small print that shrinks the refund
- Claim windows. Rolling Slots pays only if you ask support, and the bonus then has 7 days to clear at 30×.
- Win caps on the refund itself, as at KatsuBet.
- Max-bet rules carry over when cashback lands as a bonus. Bet over the limit and the winnings go.
- Abuse wording: depositing just to cross a threshold, then withdrawing, can void it.
Cashback makes a loss feel smaller, which makes the next deposit feel cheaper. If you catch yourself depositing to hit a tier, the limit tools are a better use of five minutes. For promotions with no playthrough at all, see our no-wager bonus guide; live-dealer refunds are covered on the live casino bonus page.
Small print, answered
Is casino cashback taxed in Canada?
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada, and a refund of part of your own losses is treated no differently in practice. Professional gamblers are a separate case.
Can I withdraw cashback straight away?
Only if it's paid as cash. PlayOJO and TrustDice pay with no playthrough, and Boomerang's 1× refund is withdrawable after one round of bets. A refund at 15× or 35× is a bonus and follows bonus rules, including max bet and expiry.
What happens if I finish the week ahead?
A loss-based weekly scheme pays nothing. Volume-based rebates such as OJOplus still pay, since they work on bets rather than results.
